Students from Arches traveled to the convention at the end of October to attend workshops and lectures about reporting techniques, design and new media. Arches also received an individual critique and finished the weekend winning third place in a competitive category for its November 2012 issue.

“The four-year non-weekly categories tend to be very competitive because it’s a very common frequency,” said Logan Aimone, executive director of the ACP. “…You are competing against everyone else’s best one.”

Arches offers valuable writing and design experience for students interested in the world of journalism or design. Senior staff members take the time to train new members in  areas of journalism, such as reporting, design and software programs like PhotoShop and InDesign. With its growing website, staff members also develop web writing skills and learn how to upload stories and manage new media content.
