The English department will feature critically acclaimed author Pat Schmatz, who will be speaking on campus about creating “place.”  Schmatz is the Crystal Kite winner and author of the award-winning novel, “Bluefish.”  The event is free, open to the public and will be held Oct. 23, 6:30-8 p.m. in Stiemke Hall.

Sisters of Freedom African American Women Exhibit

This exhibit highlights some of history’s greatest women.  The display panels feature women from the 1800s through today, including several from Wisconsin:

Vel Philips – attorney, judge, elected official
Martha Love – activist, organizer and labor leader
Gwen T. Jackson – civic activist

The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 1, 2013 on the second level of the Haggerty Library.

‘The Stories We Tell’  – Writing Workshop for Survivors

Mount Mary College is hosting “The Stories We Tell: A Testimonial Writing Workshop” for those who have survived sexual violence or human trafficking. Fifteen pre-selected survivors will work on a creative piece during this concentrated testimonial time.

The workshop is free to the selected participants, but space is limited to 15. The application can be found online at: http://www.mtmary.edu/untold-stories.html

The workshop will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28.
