Wow…my first blog post ever! Hi everybody. If you have found this post, I’m assuming there is something that drew you here. Whatever the reason, I hope you enjoy reading my wacky blogs.
I guess I’ll just start my first blog about the CBS show Survivor because it’s my all time favorite show. The season started on Wednesday, September 6th at 7 p.m. It’s the 25th season. Can you believe it? 25 seasons! I think it’s safe to say that it holds the title as one of the longest running reality television shows. I mean think of all the reality TV shows there are: there are the competition shows like The Amazing Race and Big Brother; there are the talent shows like American Idol or America’s Got Talent; and there are the scuzzy, controversial, but ever popular shows like Jersey Shore and Toddlers and Tiaras. It’s hard to believe how much television has changed since 16 strangers were stranded on a tropical island learning how to survive the elements and themselves.
So I guess the question now is, what does Survivor have that makes it able to air season after season? Why do people tune in every week to see contestants put themselves through hell just to try to win a million dollars? Where is the humanity in the show? I wish I had good answers to these questions. So I’ll just explain my opinion of the show’s appeal. First, I love strategy. I love using strategy and I love watching other people’s strategies. Strategy is a great way to see conflicting and similar personality types and intelligence. Second, there are always memorable characters that are flirtatious, likable, evil, and flat out crazy. There’s never a dull moment. The cast is full of big personalities who cause complete chaos. Third, it promotes family bonding. My mom is a huge fan as well and watching each episode always gives us topics to discuss.
Survivor has always been a good way for me to step away from my busy life and just enjoy an hour of entertainment. I have many fond memories with meeting Survivor contestants and attending Survivor viewing parties. Who knows…maybe you’ll one day see me on the show rather than reading my blog about it.
